How do I play?

Hold the phone in landscape, screen facing you. Tip it forward when you know the word and it moves on. Tip it back to skip — you’ll see the definition for a couple of seconds, and the word comes round again later in the round.

The tilt isn’t registering

Hold the phone still for a moment at the start of a round: that’s when it learns your resting angle, and it works from that rather than from level. If tilting still isn’t working, tap Can’t tilt? Use tap mode on the ready screen and play with the buttons instead.

How do I hear a word, or get a hint?

Tap the word to hear it read aloud. Press and hold the word for a hint — the root and origin. Words you took a hint on are shown separately at the end and don’t count toward your score.

On iPhone, speech follows the silent switch. If you hear nothing, check the switch on the side of the phone.

Can I use my own word lists?

Yes. New list → paste your words. Tabs, commas, dashes, colons, or word-then-definition on alternating lines all work; it detects the format. Numbered and bulleted lists are handled too. Use Export on any list to copy it back out as text.

Where is my data?

On your device, and nowhere else. There are no accounts and no servers, so your lists and progress don’t sync between devices. They are included in your normal iPhone backup, so restoring a new phone from a backup restores them. See the privacy page.

I removed a built-in list by mistake

Built-in lists are hidden rather than deleted. Scroll to Removed on the lists screen and tap Restore. A list you created yourself is deleted for good, so export anything you want to keep.
